My humidity dome experiment crashed harder than my last sourdough

Last month I set up 30 cuttings of my pink princess philodendron in a new DIY humidity dome setup using a heating mat and a cheap plastic tote. Everything looked great for 5 days, then I came home to find the temp inside hit 110 degrees and about 22 of them had cooked into mush. Turns out the mat was too powerful for that size tote and the little vents I cut were too high, so all the heat just sat at the top. I salvaged the 8 survivors, moved them to a simple clear bin with no mat, and started over with a soil thermometer from my local nursery. Has anyone else lost a whole batch of cuttings to an overzealous heating mat? What temp range do you actually aim for on the soil inside your dome?
