My old method for watering my ferns was total chaos

For years I just dumped a random amount of water on my Boston fern whenever I remembered, which was maybe once a week if I was lucky. Then last spring I got a moisture meter from a local nursery for like $12 and started checking the soil before watering. I found out I was drowning the poor thing half the time and leaving it bone dry the other half. Now I only water when the meter says the top 2 inches are dry, and my fern has doubled in size since June. It's crazy how a cheap little tool fixed my bad habits. Has anyone else had a plant bounce back after changing up your watering routine?

Oh man, you are not alone. I did the exact same thing with my snake plant. Thought it was a tough guy that could handle anything. Turned out I was watering it every three days like a maniac. Got a moisture meter on a whim and figured out the bottom of the pot was soaked for weeks. Let it dry out completely for like a month and a half. It pushed out three new pups just last month. That little meter really is a lifesaver.

Wait a month and a half?! I can barely go a week without poking at my plants. You just left it alone that whole time and it popped out new growth like that? That's wild, man.

A moisture meter for a snake plant though? Those things are basically unkillable, you could probably just eyeball it and be fine.
