My sister told me her new cactus was 'just a plant' and it made me pause

We were at her place in Tucson and she said, 'I got it because it's green, it doesn't need much.' I realized she sees plants as decor, not living things with needs. It hit different because she's usually so careful with her pets. How do you explain the care part to people who don't get it?

Maybe let the cactus die? Some people only learn by seeing what happens when they don't water something.

You're totally right, stella22. My roommate killed a cactus by watering it every single day, said he was being nice. Some lessons just need to be learned the hard way. Watching that thing turn to mush was the only thing that finally got through to him. Natural consequences are a powerful teacher for sure.
