Pro tip: Let your soil dry out before repotting a fiddle leaf fig

I tried repotting my fiddle leaf fig last weekend after a heavy watering (like a dumb rookie move) and the roots basically fell apart when I tried to loosen them. Turns out wet soil makes roots super fragile and tear easily, which can hurt the plant for weeks. I lost about 6 big leaves over the next 3 days and learned my lesson the hard way. Has anyone else made this mistake with a ficus lyrata or am I the only one?

Honestly I felt that pain just reading this. Tried the same thing with mine and ended up with a plant that looked like it went through a blender.

Wait, is losing a few leaves really that bad though? Fiddle leafs drop leaves when you look at them funny, they're dramatic like that. I've had mine bounce back from worse looking pretty happy after a couple weeks.
