Question about plant swaps and whether we're all just overloading each other

I was talking to a lady named Margaret at the gardening center last Saturday, and she said she brought home twelve cuttings from one meetup and now half of them are dying on her porch. Made me wonder if these swaps are really helping us or just creating more guilt about keeping plants alive.

...and honestly Margaret's porch sounds like my kitchen counter every spring. People get so excited at swaps they grab everything in sight without thinking about space or light or if they even like the plant. The guilt is real because now you're stuck nursing something you didn't even want just because you felt bad saying no. I'd rather swap for one or two good cuttings I actually have room for than end up with a dozen dying regrets.

Oh wow, I totally used to be the grab-everything type but this honestly changed my mind, @singh.harper.

I read an article that said plant swaps can actually introduce pests into your home if you're not careful, and @carr.abby's point about grabbing too much is exactly why my pilea keeps getting spider mites.
