Saw a stat that said 1 in 4 houseplants die from overwatering not underwatering

I was reading this article from some gardening site last night and it claimed 25% of houseplant deaths come from drowning them, not neglecting them. I always thought most people killed plants by forgetting to water, but the data said otherwise. That surprised me because I've killed more plants from neglect than kindness. What have you guys seen more of in your own homes - plants dying from too much love or not enough?

Bet people treat plants like hobbies instead of living things so they overdo it.

So do you think the "overwaterers" are just trying too hard to be good plant parents @grant155, while the underwaterers are the ones who forget they even have a plant?

Honestly that stat sounds backwards to me. I've drowned maybe two plants in my whole life but I've let at least a dozen dry up and turn to crispy dust.

Killed a peace lily last year by watering it every time the soil looked the tiniest bit dry. Learned my lesson after I pulled it out and the roots were basically mush.
