That 4 foot fiddle leaf fig I babied for 8 months just gave up

I got this gorgeous fiddle leaf fig back in March from a nursery in Austin, checked the soil moisture every single day, wiped the leaves down weekly, even bought a $30 humidity meter to keep things perfect. Then last Thursday I walked in and the lower leaves were all curled and brown, and by Sunday the stem had this weird soft spot near the base. I think I overwatered it after switching pots, but the weird part is I only added about half a cup extra each time. Now I'm staring at this bare stick in a fancy terracotta pot and feeling like I failed a houseplant exam. Has anyone brought one back from stem rot or should I just toss it and start over with a snake plant instead?
