That guy at the nursery showed me a dying fiddle leaf fig
He pointed at the roots and said 'waterlogged rot starts at the bottom, not the top.' Caught me off guard but now I check soil drainage on every plant I bring home. Anybody else had a random stranger save a plant for you?

just moved it to a shadier spot and left it alone for a couple weeks" - that's wild to me... you just ignored it and it came back like nothing happened? I'd be staring at it every day worrying.

Nah my waterlogged monstera bounced back fine after I ignored the soil advice and let it dry out on its own.

Same thing happened with my peace lily last summer. Got totally overwatered after a heavy rain, leaves all droopy and yellow. Just moved it to a shadier spot and left it alone for a couple weeks, it perked right back up. Sometimes these plants are way tougher than people give them credit for. Still good to be careful though, not every plant will bounce back like that.
