The old oak behind my grandma's house in Macon is smaller than I remember
Went back to Macon, Georgia two months ago and stood under the same live oak I climbed as a kid, and the whole backyard felt like it shrank. What got me was the resurrection fern on its lower limbs, which I never noticed as a child and my grandma would have called a sign of good rain. Is it just me, or does anyone else find that the plants you knew as a kid feel completely different once you actually learn what they are?
The whole backyard felt like it shrank" is the most honest thing I have read all week, and I blame the fern for it. You spent twenty years not caring about some green stuff on a tree, then one day you learn its name and suddenly the tree has lore and your childhood was incomplete. Give it ten more years and you will be texting your cousins about the moss.
