Warning: my peace lily got root rot because I babied it too much

Last month I found my peace lily looking droopy even though I watered it every 3 days like clockwork. Turns out I was drowning the poor thing because the pot had no drainage holes I forgot to check. I pulled it out and the roots were brown and mushy like old spaghetti. Had to trim off half the roots and repot it in a mix with perlite. Anyone else kill a plant with kindness like this?

Dude this is so me with my monstera last year. I had it in this cute ceramic pot I got at a flea market and I thought I was being such a good plant parent by watering it every single day (because the top soil looked dry). Turns out the bottom was basically a swamp and the roots were like... slimy string beans? I had to cut off so many roots I almost threw the whole plant away. It's only now starting to put out new leaves after I switched to a terracotta pot (you know, the ugly ones that actually breathe).

Overwatering is basically the number one way people murder their houseplants and they don't even know it. You basically gave your monstera a slow drowning and called it love. That terracotta pot is ugly but it's the difference between your plant living and it turning into a science experiment. Glad your plant pulled through, most people just throw the whole thing out and buy a new one. Let this be a lesson to everyone else peeps, stop watering your plants like it's a sauna.

Every single day? That's wild. Your poor monstera was basically living in a bathtub. I'm glad you didn't toss the whole thing, plants can bounce back from a lot if you catch it early enough.
