A guy at the yard said you should always soak your bricks, but my foreman says it's a waste of time.
I was picking up a pallet of common reds last Tuesday and the yard guy swore by it, said it stops the mortar from drying too fast. My boss on the other hand says it just makes them heavy and messy, and a good mix is all you need. We're starting a big garden wall job next week and I'm not sure which way to go. What's the real deal on soaking bricks before you lay them?

Your foreman's right, it's a total mess.

Tell me about it. Saw the whole thing go down from my truck. That crew had no clue what they were doing. Honestly surprised it got this far before someone shut it down. Looks like a real headache to fix now.

My old boss in Arizona changed my mind after a wall failed.

Remember that big retaining wall collapse on Route 9 a few years back? They used the wrong kind of backfill and it turned to soup after a heavy rain. Took out three parked cars.
