Heard a guy on a podcast say 'never tap a brick twice' and it finally clicked why my corners were drifting
I was listening to a masonry podcast on my drive to a job in Fort Wayne last Tuesday and one of the old timers said something that stuck with me. He said you set the brick once and leave it, because tapping it twice is how you start chasing the line. I always thought tapping was the right move to get it snug, so I counted my taps on a wall last week and I was hitting each brick 3 or 4 times. By the time I got to the end of the run my corners were off by almost a quarter inch and I had to pull two units out. This week I set them once, check with the level, and only adjust if it is really out, and my line has held way better. Any of you older guys ever hear that rule or is this just one guy's way of doing it?
