Just laid my 10,000th brick on the new library project
We started the foundation last month, and I've been keeping a rough count in my head. Hit the number this morning on the south wall. It's a big job, but seeing that wall go up straight and true felt solid. Anyone else ever keep track like that, or am I just weird?

Keeping a rough count in your head is smart. I did that on a big fence project last summer. Hitting those round numbers gives you a little boost to keep going. That feeling when a wall goes up straight is the best part of the job.

Oh nice! How long did that fence end up being, like total panels or feet?

Totally get that. I was laying bricks for a patio and just counting sets of ten. When I hit a hundred it felt like a real win, like I could finally take a break. That last brick sliding into a perfect line is better than coffee. Makes all the sweat worth it.

Yeah my buddy Dave was building a retaining wall last spring and he told me the exact same thing. He was just stacking blocks and counting by fives to keep his mind off the heat. Said when he hit block number 75 he started rushing because he knew the end was close. He told me that last block felt like dropping a mic. He just stood there for a minute staring at it before he even grabbed his water bottle.
