My old foreman told me to stop soaking bricks in July and I finally get why
Was talking with my old foreman Ray at a job in Bakersfield last month and he watched me dunking a pallet of red clay units in a water trough like I always do. He said 'you're just making mud soup, let the mortar pull its own water.' I argued with him for ten minutes because that's how my first journeyman taught me back in 2011. But then we laid a test course dry and the bond was tighter, no shrinkage cracks at the head joints the next day. Now I'm second guessing everything I thought I knew about hot weather work, does anyone else skip the soak when it's over 95 out?
