Old timer told me my corners looked like a drunken snake
He showed me how to use a short 3-inch level on every corner block after I laid that first course crooked at a job in Tulsa, and now I check every single one before the mortar even starts to set up - has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit someone pointed out on the fly?

Man I gotta admit I used to think checking every single corner block was way too fussy and a waste of time. But after I got burned on a patio job where the whole thing started looking like a roller coaster I finally gave in and tried it. Now I keep that little 3-inch level in my back pocket and it saves me so much headache down the line. You ever find yourself skipping a step you thought was unnecessary only to regret it later?

Man, that patio story hits way too close to home.
