TIL you can lay 1,000 bricks in a day with a helper, or 600 alone, and I picked the wrong one
Two summers ago a guy in Waco offered me a job on a motel remodel. He told me I could bring my cousin as a tender or run it solo and keep the whole rate. I did the math wrong, picked solo, and spent 11 days hauling my own mud and brick. My back was shot by day four and I finished the west wall 200 bricks behind the other crew. Next time I would split the money. Any of you run tender only on bigger jobs, and does it actually pay off?
That "split the money" line is close but not quite how the math works out. A tender is usually a day rate, not half your brick rate, so on a small remodel the helper might cost you more than the extra brick you lay. On bigger commercial jobs though, keeping a tender fed and watered all day is what lets you hit the wall count, so it can pay off there.
