Walked past a 1920s schoolhouse in Wheeling, WV and the brickwork stopped me cold
Stopped in Wheeling, WV to see my cousin and ended up parked next to an old schoolhouse built in 1923. The brick was laid so tight you could barely see the mortar joints, and the corner quoins were still dead square after a hundred years of freeze and thaw. I do mostly new builds these days, so standing there I kept thinking about the guys who set that without a mixer or a laser level. Half the commercial walls I see go up now look wavy from thirty feet. Any of you ever studied old school brickwork like that and picked up a trick worth stealing?
