Bought a $20 pressure cooker from a thrift store and it changed how I eat lunch
I picked up this old Presto pressure cooker at Goodwill for TWENTY dollars last Saturday. Thought it was a gamble but now I make beans and lentils in 20 minutes instead of 2 hours. Saved me from buying canned stuff which adds up quick when you need lunch every day. My electric bill went down a bit too since its faster than the stove. Anyone else find cheap kitchen gear that actually works better than new stuff?

Pressure cookers are a sleeper hit honestly. Got an Instant Pot a couple years back at a yard sale for like ten bucks and it still works like a dream, way better than the fancy new ones my friends bought that just gather dust.

Gotta agree with you @fionam11 about the seal thing, that happened to my mom's old one and it was a mess. But you can buy replacement seals for pretty cheap online, like 5 bucks, and those older Presto models have safety release valves so they're not as scary as people think. Once I replaced the seal and did a test run with water, mine's been solid for months now.

I got a used pressure cooker once and the rubber seal gave out on the third use. Burnt lentils all over my stovetop and it took an hour to scrub off. Plus those old ones can be dangerous if the vent clogs. $20 sounds cheap until you factor in the time you spend cleaning and worrying if it'll explode.
