Dollar store rice trick saved me $12 on dinner last night

I grabbed a bag of jasmine rice from the 99 cent store and made a stir fry with frozen veggies and a can of beans. Total cost for the whole meal was like $4 and it fed me and my roommate. Anyone else find hidden gems at those cheap stores for meal prep?

Wait I thought dollar store rice was just for like emergency candles and off-brand hot sauce you’re telling me people actually cook with it? I tried making a stir fry with that $1 frozen veggie mix once and it turned into a weird crunchy soup situation because the broccoli was just frozen water pretending to be a vegetable. Still beats paying $12 for takeout though my roommate once spent that on one burrito and it didn’t even have beans in it. You win this round budget king.

Man my buddy tried that dollar store rice once and said it turned into wallpaper paste within minutes.

Is it really that deep though? Dollar store rice isn't winning any awards but if you rinse it first and don't overcook it, it's just plain white rice. Like, yeah it's not gonna be fancy jasmine or basmati, but it's fine for soaking up chili or whatever you're throwing at it.
