Lentils are cheaper per pound than rice where I shop, but nobody believes me

I looked at the price tags in the produce section of my local Aldi last Tuesday out of pure boredom. A 1 pound bag of dried lentils was $1.29 and a 2 pound bag of white rice was $2.49. Do the math on that, the lentils come out to less per pound and they have way more protein. I cooked a batch with onions and garlic for dinner, fed my family of four for about $4 including a can of diced tomatoes. Everyone I tell this to gives me that look like I'm trying to sell them a timeshare. Why is rice the default budget carb when beans and lentils are sitting right there for basically the same money? Has anyone else done this comparison at their local store or am I just getting weird prices at this one Aldi?
