My big bag of rice split open on the kitchen floor last night

I was getting ready to make a big batch of fried rice and the whole 20 pound bag just ripped from the bottom. Rice went everywhere, all over the floor and under the fridge. I didn't want to waste it, so I got a clean sheet, poured the rice onto it, and picked out any bits of dirt or dust. I ended up washing it really well in a big bowl of water before cooking it. Has anyone else had to save a staple food from a kitchen disaster?

That's a lot of work for some floor rice, man. I get not wanting to waste food, but after it's been under the fridge I'd just toss it. @alice_allen5 has a point about the old school mindset, but a bag of dirt is cheaper than a stomach bug. Sometimes the rescue mission just isn't worth the risk.

My uncle once tried to save a whole dropped meatloaf.

My mom used to save pasta from the floor all the time, saying it was fine after a boil. It feels like a whole generation was raised on this "five-second rule but for bulk groceries" mindset lol.
