Overheard a cashier say she feeds four people on $75 a week, had to ask how
I was in the checkout line at Aldi on a Saturday and this woman in front of me was buying a huge pile of stuff, like two carts full. The cashier asked her how often she shops and she said once a week for her family of four, and she keeps it under $75. I literally turned around and asked her for tips. She said she plans around whatever meat is marked down that morning, usually chicken thighs or pork loin, then builds every meal around rice, beans, and frozen veggies. She also said she never buys anything in a box, only ingredients, and she makes her own tortillas because the store ones cost triple. I tried her method for two weeks now and my grocery total went from like $110 down to $82, not quite her level but close. Biggest change was going to the store right when they open on Wednesday to catch the markdowns before anyone else. Has anyone else had luck with the markdown rack at their local store, or is this just a particular location thing?
