Serious question, did anyone else find out canned beans cost 4x less than the goya cans and feel dumb?
So last week I was at the Kroger on Cedar Springs in Dallas and I grabbed my usual 6 cans of beans like always, ran them through the self checkout, and almost choked when the total came up. I looked at the receipt and the name brand cans were $1.79 each while the store brand right next to them was $0.49. Same aisle, same shelf, literally 14 inches apart. I did the math on the drive home and that is over $300 a year difference for my family since we eat beans like 4 nights a week. I pulled up the labels when I got back and the ingredients were the same three words: beans, water, salt. I felt like such a sucker for grabbing the familiar can without even checking. Now I want to know what else I am blindly overpaying for at the store, so hit me with the swaps that saved you the most cash per item.
Goodness, yes, store brand all the way on the basics. I switched to the cheap oats, flour, and sugar years ago and never looked back. The only thing I still pay up for is coffee, because I can actually taste that difference. Everything else in a plain can or bag is the same stuff with a different label slapped on.
