Appreciation post: my contract guy caught a $12k problem in 20 minutes last month
Hired a local lawyer in Austin 3 years ago just to look over a vendor deal, and last month he spotted an auto-renew clause that would've locked me in for another 24 months. Has anyone else had a small review like that save them way more than the fee?
Why do we wait until something breaks before we pay someone to look at it carefully? It's the same thing with home inspectors, dentists, car mechanics, all of it. We skip the $200 checkup and then eat the $8k repair, and somehow we feel smart for saving the $200. People will drop $12k on a course or a new truck without blinking but won't spend a few hundred to have a pro actually read the papers they're signing. The pattern is everywhere, we treat small checks as a waste until the big bill shows up. Your lawyer basically got paid 60 to 1 on that one clause, and that's the whole point people keep missing.
