Ran a small landscaping biz in Boise for years and always just signed whatever the client handed me, never really read past the scope of work. Back in March a repeat client I'd worked with since 2021 sent over their standard contract, and my new bookkeeper asked me to send her a copy for her files. She called me two days later and asked if I knew about section 9, the auto-renew clause that locked me into the same rate for another 24 months unless I gave 60 days written notice. I'd been billing them the same price since gas was $2.80 a gallon, so that one signature was basically eating $500 a month off my margins. Now I'm wondering how many other old contracts I signed are still sitting there with similar traps, anyone else get burned by a clause they skimmed over years ago?
