Lawyer said my NDA was overkill, he was right after 2 years

My attorney kept pushing a 12 page NDA with non-compete clauses for a small subcontractor deal in Austin, I thought he was being lazy. Two years and zero leaks later, I finally get why simple contracts win, the other side actually signed it without a fight. Anyone else had a lawyer talk them out of legalese and it worked out better?

Wait, did the non-compete actually hold up in court or did you just never test it? Because I've seen those clauses get shredded by judges when the scope is too broad, especially for a sub deal that small. Curious if your lawyer cut it down to just the trade secrets or if they kept the full no-compete but made it shorter in pages. What did the final version actually protect, your client list or the specific process you use?
