He made everyone sign one, even the shop guys who never touched a customer list. Has anyone actually gotten out of one of these without paying a lawyer to read 2 pages?
$2,100 to read two pages is normal, that's just what lawyers charge. You don't need one to look at it though, non-competes in Arizona have to be tied to a real business interest like customer lists or trade secrets. Shop guys who never saw a customer list usually have nothing to worry about, the thing probably wouldn't hold up anyway.
Wait, $2,100 just to read two pages? Man that's rough and I feel for you, cause that kind of bill would stress anybody out. @pat_murray53 is right that lawyers charge crazy rates, but that doesn't make it hurt any less when it's your money on the line. The good news is what he said about Arizona law, cause if you were just a shop guy who never touched a customer list or trade secrets, they'd have a real hard time making that thing stick. Still sucks you're stuck in this spot at all. Hang in there and don't let the price tag scare you into thinking you're screwed, cause you might be in better shape than you think.
