My own contract dispute over a $40 handshake deal
I helped a buddy set up a small popup shop last spring, just a verbal agreement for what I thought was a favor. He paid me 40 bucks in cash, then tried to claim I owed him for inventory damage from a leaky pipe. I laughed it off until his lawyer sent a demand letter for $800. Learned my lesson: even tiny handshake deals need a one page written note, or at least a text trail. Has anyone else gotten burned by a 'quick favor' that turned into a legal mess?

Buddy of mine did a "quick favor" helping a friend move a couch, got paid in beer, and the friend tried to sue him for scratching a doorframe. Cost him more in gas going to court than the damn couch was worth.
