Update: I used to skip contract reviews until a vendor in Austin screwed me over

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last month when a vendor I’d worked with for 2 years tried to slip in a 30% price hike in a renewal contract. I almost signed it without reading because I trusted them. But I stopped and actually read the fine print - found a clause that let them change terms with just a 7-day notice. That convinced me to never skip a detailed review again, even with people I know well. Has anyone else gotten burned by trusting a long-term partner too much?

WOAH wait hold up. That thing where they could switch you to lower quality material without even telling you? That is absolutely insane. I would have been livid if I found that in a contract after trusting someone for years. It's like they count on you being too busy or too comfortable to actually read the fine print. I bet a lot of people just sign and hope for the best, which is exactly what they want. Good on you for catching it, but man that must have been a nightmare to deal with.

Did that 7 day notice clause only apply to price changes or could they mess with anything else in the contract? I had a supplier try something similar where the fine print let them switch us to a lower quality material without telling us, so we ended up with a batch of defective parts. Everyone blamed me for not catching it. What industry is this vendor in, anyway? Curious if there's a pattern with certain types of businesses trying to pull this stuff.
