Why did nobody warn me about the fine print in my LLC operating agreement

I signed up for a boilerplate operating agreement off the internet last year for my landscaping business. Then my partner wanted out after 6 months and the buyout clause basically said I had to pay him 3 times his contribution. Has anyone else gotten stuck with a bad template and had to redo everything after the fact?

Man people really overthink this stuff. Did your partner actually come after you for the full buyout or are you just worried about it? Half the time boilerplate agreements are written to scare people into not fighting back but nobody actually enforces every single line of it. I mean worst case you couldve just negotiated with the guy or dissolved the whole thing and started fresh. Redoing the operating agreement is a pain sure but its not like the IRS is gonna show up at your door. Honestly I think you got panicked over something that was probably fixable with a 5 minute conversation.

Folks get real caught up in the worst case scenario before they even have a conversation... it's like they imagine the whole fight before the other person says a word. Most partnerships are way too messy for anyone to actually enforce every little thing in the contract without it costing more than it's worth to fight about. A quick chat and a handshake usually fixes way more than people think it will, but you gotta actually start the talk instead of just assuming how it'll end.
