Had a customer last week ask if we could cut a pork shoulder into the shape of a dinosaur for his kid's birthday.

My cousin tried to get a cake shaped like a train last year... the bakery just gave up and wrote "choo choo" on a sheet cake. Feel your pain.

Oh man, @mark_chen62, that is the perfect cake fail story. Did they at least use some licorice for train tracks or just totally give up? I tried to get a dinosaur cake once, and it looked more like a sick lizard with droopy frosting spikes. They promised a stegosaurus and delivered a blob. Some bakeries just should not offer shapes if they can't pull it off.

Oh, I have to jump in on that train cake story, but you said "licorice for train tracks" and I gotta gently say... that sounds like a genius idea that nobody ever actually does. Most bakeries just slap some frosting on and call it a day, they don't think about details like that. But honestly, if they can't even shape a train, they probably wouldn't bother with licorice tracks either. It's like with the stegosaurus blob you mentioned, they just give up and hope you won't complain. At least with the "choo choo" sheet cake, they admitted defeat upfront.

Yeah, that "sick lizard" look is tough. I mean, maybe try asking for a simple T-rex outline next time, it's way easier to cut.
