Had a walk-in cooler fail on a Friday before a holiday weekend

The temp spiked to 55 degrees overnight and I lost about $2,000 worth of primals. The repair guy couldn't get a part for three days, so I had to scramble to rent a refrigerated truck. It was a brutal lesson in checking those condenser coils more often, especially before big sales. Anyone else had a cooler go down at the worst possible time?

Wait, is the main lesson really about checking the coils? In my experience, a sudden spike like that is more often a failed compressor or a bad fan motor. Coil cleaning helps long term, but it won't stop a part from breaking at the worst time. The real takeaway is having a backup plan for when, not if, the equipment fails. Renting that truck was smart, but maybe setting up a deal with a neighbor for cooler space could be a cheaper backup for next time.

What's your backup plan now for a multi-day repair?

Borrow Stella22's car, obviously.

And honestly, the coils are still a big deal though. I clean mine every month now after a similar disaster, but @stella22 is right to ask about a backup plan. I ended up trading favors with the produce stand down the road where I stash boxes if mine goes down again. Having a list of who has cold storage nearby saved me the second time my compressor blew on a Sunday.
