I quit using my grandfather's old steel after Tom at the shop in Dayton told me why my flats looked ragged
Tom runs the counter at a shop over on 3rd in Dayton and he watched me cut a chuck flat for maybe 30 seconds before he said my steel was too short for the block I was working on. He pulled out a 10 inch cimeter and ran it through in two passes with way less sawing than I was doing. I switched to a longer blade the next week and my cut time dropped enough that I stopped dreading big orders. What blade length are you all running for chuck and shoulder work?
