I thought my old bone saw was fine until I borrowed a friend's new Victorinox

For years I used a basic saw from a hardware store, thinking a blade is a blade. My buddy let me use his Victorinox 12-inch breaking saw on a whole pork shoulder last month. The difference was huge, it cut through bone like butter with half the effort and no binding. I'm looking at buying one now, but that price tag is steep. Anyone have a good spot to find a deal on a solid breaking saw?

That price tag is for the steel.

Exactly, you're paying for the raw material before any real work even starts. The cutting, shaping, and welding all add up on top of that base cost. It's why a simple steel table can cost so much more than one made from cheaper stuff. People see the final price and don't realize how much of it is just the metal sitting there.

Saw a thing online where a metalworker broke down a simple bench. The steel itself was over half the total cost before they even turned on a grinder. Makes you wonder why raw materials get so expensive, right? It's not like the price of digging ore out of the ground should swing that much. Guess we're paying for all the processing and shipping long before it gets to a shop.
