Old butcher at the supply house set me straight about bone dust
He saw me brushing my bandsaw blade clean and told me i was just rubbing the grit deeper into the teeth, said to use a wire brush instead. Tried it on my last side of beef and the cuts came out way cleaner, no more dragging through the bone.

Funny you mention that, my grandpa used to say the same thing about sharpening his pocket knife on a whetstone with too much oil. Took me years to realize he was just trying to get me to slow down and not ruin the edge, same trick goes for saw blades I guess.
