Walked into a USDA inspector who flagged my shoulder labels at a shop in Denver last month
The guy was new, fresh out of training. He tore apart my labeling system because the cryovac date was printed a half inch off from where he wanted it. Threatened to pull our whole load. I argued for 20 minutes then realized he wasn't budging. Now I triple check every label placement before boxing. Has anyone else had an inspector make up rules on the spot like that?

Got a sharpie and marked where labels go, never had an issue since.

Man, that is wild. A half inch? That's not even a full centimeter, that's like the width of your thumb. I'd be standing there blinking at him trying to figure out if he was pranking me. It's one thing to have a system, but pulling a whole load over something that small feels like a total power trip. Bet that guy was just trying to prove he'd memorized some rulebook, even if it was a made-up one in his head.

Hold up, wait. Was this guy seriously going to pull a whole load over a half inch? I mean I get rules are rules but that's just... wow. Some inspectors get that little bit of power and just run with it, making up stuff as they go. I've heard of guys demanding labels be in the exact same spot on every box down to the millimeter, like it actually matters for food safety. It's almost like they have to find something wrong to justify their job, even if it's completely made up.
