Serious question, a guy at the return counter said he buys cheap tools twice instead of good ones once, and I cant stop running the math
I was in line at the hardware store in Reno last month and the guy in front of me was returning his third $20 drill in a year. He told the clerk he does it on purpose because "a $60 drill lasts forever and then you never get to try the new ones." At first I laughed, then I did the math on my own garage and felt dumb. I have a $9 wrench set from 4 years ago that has outlived a $45 set I babied, and I still think about the $170 tool box I passed on in 2021 that now costs $240. So now I'm wondering if the real deal is to buy cheap and replace, or save up and cry once. What is the one thing you bought cheap on purpose and never regretted?
