Serious question, why does every dollar store tool aisle feel like a trap for us mechanics?
I grabbed a $3 magnetic socket organizer at a Dollar Tree in Tucson three days ago because my shop cart was a mess. It looked fine until I put four sockets on it, and the whole thing snapped in half right at the spot weld. I ended up wasting 20 minutes cleaning up the fallen sockets and then drove to the real hardware store to get a $15 one that actually holds. The lesson is that some cheap tools cost you more in time than the few bucks you save, and I should know better from running my own shop. So let me ask you all: what's the dumbest dollar store tool buy you regret, and did it break on the first job or the tenth?
