Remember that RECLAIMED wood still needs lots of processing.

Strip out all the old nails first. Sanding takes forever too if you want a smooth finish.

Forget the nails, what about the HIDDEN stuff like old paint or chemicals? That's the real time sink nobody talks about. Lunar89 is right a planer helps, but you hit a mystery stain or some old treatment and your whole day is shot. Makes me wonder if the "character" is worth all that extra prep work sometimes.
