Drawer slide screws pulled out on a 6 month old shop cabinet
Last Tuesday I was loading up a base cabinet I built back in March for my own shop, and the bottom drawer just dropped and hung there. The #6 screws on the drawer slide had pulled clean out of the plywood, and I could see the holes were wallowed out. Back when I started in the 90s we used coarser threads and pilot holes were just something you eyeballed, and I swear that held up better than some of the finer stuff now. I ended up gluing in maple plugs, redrilling, and bumping up to #8 screws, but now I'm second guessing my whole pilot hole routine. What size pilot bits are you all running in plywood these days?
