I thought dovetails were showoff work until an old timer in Cleveland asked me one question
I used to skip dovetails on drawer boxes because I figured glue and brads hold just fine and nobody sees the joint anyway, until a guy named Ray at a shop on Lorain Ave watched me staple a box together and asked if I wanted my name on it. He pulled out a drawer he built in 1978, still tight, no rattle, and told me the joint is not for the customer, it is for the guy who has to fix it in 20 years. How many of you switched to hand cut or router jigs for drawers after seeing an old piece hold up?
