My old boss in Portland told me to always use a 1/8 inch gap on inset doors, but I just had a whole kitchen come back

Honestly, he was so sure about it, said it was the 'professional standard' for paint grade maple. I followed it on a big job for a house near the coast, and after a humid summer every single door was sticking. Tbh I'm thinking it needs to be more like 3/32 or even 1/16 in that climate. What gap do you guys actually use for painted inset doors?

That gap always needs to change with the weather.

Nah, I've always gone with 3/32 for paint.

Actually, 3/32 is a bit thin for most paint jobs. You'll get better coverage and fewer runs with a 1/8 inch tip. It's a pretty common standard for latex.

3/32 has always worked fine for me honestly... I've been painting for years and never had issues with runs or coverage using that size. Maybe it depends on the brand of sprayer you're using or how thick your paint is. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
