Picked up a tip from a guy at the lumber yard about jointing warped boards with a hand plane...

He said to spray a mist of water on the cupped side and clamp it flat overnight before planing, which saved me from trashing a $40 walnut board last Tuesday... anyone else try this trick?

Gotta push back on this one - soaking wood like that can trap moisture deep in the grain and mess with your glue joints later on. I'd rather take a pass or two off the high spots with a scrub plane and call it good, saves the headache down the road lol.

Emma has a fair point about moisture getting trapped deep in the grain, but I've done this water mist trick maybe a dozen times now without any glue joint issues afterwards. The key is keeping the mist light - you want the surface just damp, not soaking wet like you left it out in the rain. I've had good results clamping walnut and cherry this way, then planing the next morning before any moisture can get too deep. Still, I get where @emma96 is coming from, and I'd never do this on a super thin board or anything that's already cracked.

Oh boy, this reminds me of how people treat their lawn sprinklers - a light mist in the morning works wonders, but drenching everything just creates problems that show up weeks later. It's the same principle here, too much of a good thing is just asking for trouble down the line. I've learned the hard way that patience and a light touch beat brute force every single time.
