Rant: Why does everyone forget to account for the cabinet door overlay?

I keep seeing new builders measure face frames without adding the overlay, then their gaps are all off. I messed this up on my first kitchen job three years ago and had to re-cut five doors. Has anyone else caught this on a site inspection?

Started measuring overlay right after the reveal on every job now. It's wild how many guys skip that step and then wonder why their doors dont line up. I had a helper last month who insisted the overlay was just a suggestion, not a hard measurement. Had to walk him through three examples before it clicked. The gap between doors is the worst part, it looks like a cheap pressboard special instead of a real cabinet.

Read this from a KCMA guide that claimed overlay tolerances are tighter than most guys realize.

Started measuring overlay right after the reveal on every job now" - see I've been doing this long enough that I think a lot of that tolerance stuff is overblown for most kitchens... as long as gaps are consistent it's fine.
