The $80 drawer slide jig that sat in my van for 9 months
Bought that fancy Blum jig last spring thinking it'd speed up my kitchen installs, but I only used it once before realizing my old spacer block method was just as fast, has anyone else dropped cash on a gadget that ended up collecting dust?

Nine months is nothing, tbh. I've got a router bit set from 2017 that's still in the shrink wrap because I bought it for one job and never needed it again. Honestly, the real test is if you reach for it before the old method, and it sounds like you already know the answer. Spacer blocks are janky looking but they don't need batteries or calibration, so I'm not surprised it's collecting dust.
