Found out cable clips can destroy your own wiring if you push too hard

I was running a new line in an attic in Austin last week and heard a crack when I hammered a clip over the coax. Pulled it back and saw the jacket was split clean through, never noticed that before in 5 years of doing this. Has anyone else had clips damage their own cable like that?

Had an old timer show me this trick years ago. He said to never smack a clip straight on, always angle it a bit so the prongs slide along the jacket instead of digging into it. Ive been doing it his way ever since and it works, but I still messed up a run last month in a pinch. Used one of those plastic adhesive backed clips instead of a hammer on and it pulled right off the drywall after a week. Sometimes the old methods are better even if theyre slower. The real trick is just not rushing, which I never seem to learn.

Ran into the same thing with adhesive clips last fall on a basement ceiling job. Switched back to hammer on staples after that and never looked back, even if my thumb takes a beating sometimes. Funny how the old timers always end up being right about stuff like this, but we still gotta learn it the hard way ourselves.

Did something similar happen to my buddy @phoenix_singh25? He swore by those clips until one popped off mid-winter.
