I finally had a talk with my kid's teacher that changed my mind about cable runs
She said 'you guys are the reason our school can have a science fair video call with a museum.' I've always grumbled about pulling lines in old buildings, thinking it's just TV. But she pointed out the fiber line I put in last year let a whole class talk to a scientist in real time. That hit different because I was just focused on the job, not what it actually does for people. Now I look at every crawl space a bit differently. Anyone else have a moment where you saw the real impact of a routine install?

We had a similar thing at the local library branch. I ran the line for their new public computers last month and just saw it as another drop. Went in yesterday to get a book and saw an older guy video calling his grandkids for the first time on one of them. He was so happy. It really does change how you see the work when you see it being used.

Yeah but sometimes you never get to see that. You just do the install and move on to the next ticket. For every happy grandpa there are ten computers that just get used to check email or look at ads. The warm feeling doesn't pay the bills or make the next job any easier.

Totally get what @bailey.jennifer means. It's easy to just see the job, not the people. Like setting up wifi in a community center. Just another task. Then you see a kid doing homework there because they have no internet at home. Changes everything. You realize you're not just installing a router, you're building a bridge. Makes the long days worth it.
