Passed 500 house installs and never expected this one problem to show up

I just hit 500 cable installs over 4 years doing work around Dallas and Fort Worth. What surprised me is that maybe 30 of those jobs had bad coax splitters already installed by other guys that caused signal loss on the main line. Has anyone else noticed how many houses have crappy splitters causing problems down the road?

Ngl I've definitely been that guy who blamed the splitter when it was actually my own shoddy connector work. I had one install where the signal was all messed up and I spent 20 minutes troubleshooting before realizing I left the weather boot sitting on my truck seat. Three years in and I'm still learning that the equipment is usually fine, it's just my clumsy hands rushing things.

Honestly I gotta push back a little here. I've done my share of installs and seen plenty of cheap splitters too, but most of the time the problem isn't the splitter itself. It's how they're installed - like people mangling the connectors or leaving the ends exposed to weather. In my experience a $5 splitter from Home Depot works fine if you actually tighten it right and seal it up. I've seen guys blame the hardware when really they just rushed the job.

Yeah man, a dab of silicone on the connector saves a ton of headaches later.
