Wait, a 1920s house still had an active phone line buried in the wall? That's wild.

Right? Found a live line in my own place last year. Had to call the phone company to finally kill it.

Seriously though, how common is this really? Old phone lines are just copper wire, it's not like hitting a live electrical cable. Worst case you mess up your drill bit. The gas line thing is a separate problem, you should always check for those with a proper sensor. This feels like making a big deal out of a pretty small risk.
