PSA: new coax staple gun shot a staple through the center conductor on a Tuesday job
Last Tuesday I was running RG6 in a crawlspace in Gary, Indiana and my new staple gun put a staple right through the center conductor of a line I had just fished. I only found it when the modem wouldn't sync and the meter read open at 40 feet. I could either pull the whole run and eat the time, or cut and splice with a barrel connector in a spot the homeowner can't reach. What would you do, pull it or splice it and hope it holds?
Been there with those newer guns, the springs are way too strong for RG6. Had one punch through both the jacket and the foil on a run last month, and it tested fine on the meter but the customer lost internet every time it rained. Water got in through the tiny hole and it was a mess to track down later. Learned my lesson the hard way on that one. I started backing the tension screw way off and squeezing slower, and I have not lost a line since.
